Uncertainty and Stress

"Stress is an ignorant state. It believes that everything is an emergency."

Natalie Goldberg

As I wrote this post, I wondered about my greatest stressors and determined that I have only one: uncertainty. But I also determined that uncertainty can be good - it allows for a lot of creative preparation for worst case scenarios that for the most part, never materialize. The stress arising from uncertainty is really only a state of mind. And one of the best ways to achieve peace of mind is to slow down.

When was the last time you took a vacation or spent “quality” time with your family? When was the last time you turned off your electronics - computer, smartphone, television, voicemail, etc.? Did you ever notice what happens when you turn your computer off and then on again? It seems to work better, faster, doesn’t it? Your brain needs the same thing. Turn off to turn on again.

Purposefully choose peace of mind to combat uncertainty and stress.
