Are we in this together?
“We’re in this together.”
“We’re all in this together.”
“We’ll get through this together.”
How many times have you heard these statements over the past several months?
If you’re anything like me, you’re wondering how anyone can say something like this with a straight face.
Listen.
If we’re “together,” then that means that we are equal. And equality means that everyone has the same opportunity as anyone else. But that’s not true, is it? Someone is always greater than or less than someone else, no matter how you want to argue this.
Sadly, equality in today’s society (and all preceding societies and generations) is mere lip service. It does not exist in any realm: Age, race, religion, gender, economy, sex - just to name a few areas. Only those born rich, white, and/or male are the most likely to believe in equality.
Until equality becomes Truth in ALL respects, we can never be together – not now, not ever. IMHO.
“Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact.”
Honore de Balzac
